Cort Savage

  • Chair and Professor of Art
  • Davidson College

As best he can figure, Cort Savage’s sculpture education began with the gift of his first set of lego’s at age 8. He completed his BA (Phi Beta Kappa) in Fine Art at Indiana University, Bloomington and his MFA in Sculpture at Syracuse University. He is currently Professor of Art at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina where he has taught Sculpture and Drawing for the past nineteen years.

Savages’ mixed media kinetic installations are inspired by an extended recovery period following a fall while rock-climbing. His works have been exhibited throughout the United States including the Mint Museum of Art, The Cameron Museum of Art and the New Orleans Center for Contemporary Art. He has received grants and fellowships of support from organizations including the North Carolina Arts Council, the Southern Arts Federation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. He received the 2006 Arlin Meyer Prize presented by the Lilly Fellows Program for the creation of his installation Scattered Man and the Particle. He is more ‘tech curious’ than ‘tech savvy’
